Innovation in Hiring Developers?

Well… my department is hiring developers and I was wondering about the need of innovation in our recruitment process. I belive that the selection process should be such that it automatically filters the ‘good’ candidate. Rather than mincing with words, this picture, that I found on web, says it all.

In the Indian context, the equation needs to be more complex… 😉

If I want to hire a developer, then I would want someone who has good logical aptitude, excellent problem solving skills and a passion for coding. Is the current process of test and interview successful in identifying such candidates? I am not sure.

I would like to evaluate a candidate based on his contributions to the programming society like the projects he has done, participation in open source development, web sites, blogs, discussion forums etc. I think this is more important than the marks he has obtained in graduation, X, XII etc. or even what degree he has. With Web 2.0, we need Recruitment 2.0!! 🙂
